5 kick ass action films of 2014 you need to watch

When it comes to kick ass action films, there’s nothing like a film which is cool and packed with gun slingers with attitude and with minimal use of CGI.

Surprisingly 2014 has seen an increase in quality of films with so many titles on the the list to watch. However I feel there are five films which really stood out last year. These movies had something special that grabbed the audiences attention and that is an action star hero. Someone who has a cool swagger and motive to take action, from killing the bad guy or defending against them. Either way there’s always an antagonist and a protagonist that keep the film rolling.

Either way it’s all about kicking ass.

1) Edge of Tomorrow

This easily makes the top list of films of the year let alone being a high impact action film with a sci-fi component. The concept is very unique which see’s Tom Cruise possessing the ability to restart and go back in time each time he’s killed by an alien enemy attack. It sort of reminds us of a a video game where you get x amount of lives but in this instance we see Cruise restarting hundreds of times. I won’t ruin it any further for you in case you haven’t seen it.

He’s got the help of the lovely Emily Blunt who also got a lot of praise for her performance.

 2) The Equalizer

We see Denzel Washington return back to doing what he does best, that is kicking the bad guy’s ass unless he is the villain himself which would  mean kicking his own ass in… okay not quite likely. But Denzel has played these roles on several occasions and many people say his films are all the same. This time he’s come back to kick ass with an edge. You won’t be disappointed with the action packed revenge plot installed in a unique manner. We see Washington as a man with a mysterious background, most likely a ex CIA/ government hit-man or spy who sets out to take on top Russian mobsters after they leave a teenager hospitalised.

3) Lucy

It’s stars the stunning Scarlett Johansson who is the queen of kicking ass. She has proper attitude with femininity when it comes to being cool to carry such roles. In Lucy we see Johansson take on Korean mobsters after she accidentally becomes dosed with some new hi- tec drug that transforms her into a merciless warrior or might I say goddess. It goes into a sci-fi direction whereby she looses her sensitive feelings and ends up taking on the world. Directed by Luke Besson the king of action films.

4) Non-Stop

This was one of the most unique action packed film based on a plane starring Liam Neesom is one hell of a bad ass and the king of ass kicking, sorry Denzel. This guy should seriously get like 7 Oscars. Since the mid 2000’s he’s emerged as an innovator of thriller and action films but he has also proven he can do comedy with A Million Ways to Die in the West. Non-Stop keeps you at the edge of your seats guessing what will unravel next. The concept is brilliant and you’ll be surprised by the twists and turns that the film instills. This has the one of the greatest plan plot films ever made.

5) The guest

Starring newcomer Dan Stevens who you probably know from Downton Abbey, this is a gripping film which keeps you thrilled. Therefore The Guest had to make the list. Stevens is easily the breakthrough Hollywood actor of 2014.

The way he carries this film really shows his potential to be a Hollywood star. His performance takes kick ass to the next level as he portrays a bad boy vibe within the film to which reminds me of Tom Cruise, or rather an antihero from one of the good old 80’s action flicks. However Stevens is younger and taller then Cruise. This is a really cool film which starts off with slow tempo and then really takes off into a new direction as the mystery unravels. There’s a lot of gun packed action. Although the storyline may be the weakest aspect of the film, it’s overshadowed by Stevens’ cool performance.

That’s it, we’ve gone through the main films that really stood out for kicking major ass last year with all the trailers for you to check out.
