Darkest Dungeon heads to PS4 in 2015; trailer, screenshots posted

Some good news for PS4 owners looking to get their RPG fix on! Red Hook Studios’ mucho anticipated Darkest Dungeon will be making its way to the PS4 in 2015; check out the trailer and a few images accompanying the announcement.

The game seeks to combine traditional old-school RPG elements with a more updated visual style and some interesting and new mechanics, with the most fascinating one being the introduction of the Affliction System. What this means is that unlike other traditional games in the genre wherein players could delve into the depths of some very dark places and come out unscathed as long as they had a few health potions, Darkest Dungeon focuses on the stress and mental toll such circumstances can take on a character.

Obviously fighting horrifying monsters and trudging through dark and creepy underground locations while supplies are low and enemies outnumber you should have a negative effect on your party, which is what this game intends to focus on. This means that faring well in a fight can boost the party’s mental health, while being poisoned will have an adverse effect. The characters who fail and “affliction check” can become abusive, irrational or masochistic, which makes them all the more unique, as those traits means that they act differently from time to time.

Their experiences can also provide them with some distinctive perks, such as travelling too much in the dark may make one capable of fighting better in low-light condition or instead plain fearful of shadows. To aid in relieving stress, one can allows party characters to take some time off and indulge in what the town as to offer, such as drinking, gambling or even praying, though over-indulgence could also have adverse effects. The good news is that all that loot you collect on your travels will be useful in upgrading the Homebase and expanding it with establishments like the Guild and Blacksmith, which will also be useful in upgrading the heroes.

The game will make its debut in early 2015 for the PC, Mac and Linux; a final PS4 release date has yet to be announced. Watch the clip below to see a bit of the gameplay and the types of monstrosities the party will have to defeat in the….Darkest Dungeon!
