Watch the 21-minute long E3 demo presentation of Killzone: Shadow Fall

Guerrilla Games staged a 21-minute long presentation of their in-development FPS for the PS4, Killzone: Shadow Fall, during which they initially showcased footage running in realtime, in which the Helghast perpetrate a terrorist attack on a Vektan city and the player attempts to repel the invasion. The lighting and visual effects are impressive, and demonstrate what can be accomplished utilising the powerful architecture of this next-generation console.

The developers then talk about the art in the game, the inception and process of creating a new planet for displaying the Helghast conflict, and how that led to the formation of Vekta, which allows for the creation of multiple varied and beautiful environments. They also talk about the vast utopian city shown in the demo accomplished due to the PS4’s capabilities, allowing for small but immersive details such as flying vehicles and the many civilians walking around.

We get to see how this allows for much more detailed characters, such as a Helghast terrorist model which contains around 40,000 polygons. The environment art director subsequently talks about how the world was built twice over, once for before the attack, and the second for after the bombing, so that the difference between the two is starkly visible. He also demonstrates the debug tool and some of its features, such as allowing us a wireframe look via a birds-eye view of the scene and the entire city.

Last, but not least, we get to see a bit of a new mission from the game that takes place in a forest location, featuring drop-down kills, small deployable aerial attack drones and shields, and much more. Don’t forget to take a look at some of our other articles on the game for more screenshots and videos.
