Murdered: Soul Suspect heads to Xbox One; new video released

Square Enix and Airtight Games’ Unreal Engine 3-based action-adventure thriller, Murdered: Soul Suspect, has been confirmed as being developed for the Xbox One in addition to other previously announced platform versions. This was accompanied by the following video featuring Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb and various developers at Airtight Games; we get to see the game in action and also learn a bit more about the protagonist and his abilities.

What’s unique about the title is that it begins with the main character’s murder, and the detective has to then acquaint himself with his new abilities which make up for the lack of his corporeal ones and solve the mystery behind his homicide, while also aiding other otherworldly inhabitants. Design Producer Eric Studer talks about how the protagonist Ronan O’Connor must familiarise himself with his disoriented yet useful new functions to investigate crime scenes in an all new way, as he can possess people, allowing him to eavesdrop on conversations, look through their eyes, and somewhat influence their thoughts.

This also means an interesting take on the investigation process, and calls for the player to employ his mind more in figuring out clues and patterns and organising them in a way that that makes sense. There are various side quests to complete enabling ghosts with unfinished businesses to move on and collectibles to locate, from discovering a pattern on a wall to putting together memory fragments to cohesively form a ghost’s story. The detective noir game is expected to arrive in Q2 on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3; its unclear right now if the Xbox One edition will see a simultaneous release.
