Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel heads to PC, consoles this Fall; here are some screenshots and a video

2K has announced that the next title in their superhit FPS series is Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, which is being co-developed by Gearbox Software and 2K Australia for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, and will arrive on those platforms this Fall. They have also issued the following images and a developer overview video, giving us the first look at their AAA shooter set on Pandora’s moon Elpis.

The video above has Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford and 2K Australia’s general manager Tony Lawrence provide us with some insight into the game, which takes place between the events of Borderlands and Borderlands 2 (hence the weird name!).  The footage is from a pre-Alpha build, but it still looks awesome and ridiculously fun, with the players using a ‘Cryo’ elemental damage type weapon to freeze and shatter enemies and the latter float away into space in tiny bits, as well as a laser weapon to take some of them down.

The innovative setting adds to the gameplay, with new elements such as oxygen tanks doubling up as jetpacks allowing you to double jump, hover or smash down on the ground and stun enemies. The story revolves around Handsome Jack and his transformation into the evil villain that can be seen in Borderlands 2, with players choosing from four new characters classes – Athena The Gladiator (seen in The Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC for Borderlands), Wilhelm The Enforcer (a boss in Borderlands 2), Nisha The Lawbringer (sheriff of Lynchwood from Borderlands 2), and Claptrap The Fragtrap (robot companion from the previous games) – with the last one likely to please those familiar with the franchise. Rounding all of this up will be plenty of new enemies to shoot and new vehicles to explore those beautiful lunar environments.
