Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut trailer illuminates Squad Creation & Tactics
After giving us a taste of the story and the variety – and impact – of player choices in Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut, inXile’s Brian Fargo returns with a new video shedding a bit more light on squad creation and combat in the tactical turn-based RPG.
Releasing on 13 October for the PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One and PS4, the game is all about the player controlling their squad of Desert Rangers and encountering and dealing with various characters and scenarios in the post-apocalyptic Arizona wasteland. Players can use preset squads of go about creating their own, though one must keep in mind that a diverse team is key to defusing and surviving different situations. Squad creation entails determining attributes, skills, weapon specialisations, character history/background and of course their appearance.
Experienced players will know that a balanced squad is crucial; a field medic, demolitions expert, diplomatic negotiator and a character skilled in lockpicking or stealth are but some of the important roles you may want to keep in mind. Add to this the Quirks & Perks system, which makes those characters all the more unique. Varied weaponry and equipment is also important, as your foes are many and diverse, requiring different tactics to defeat. Finally, utilising your squad in the right way is also essential for victory, which means ensuring your sniper gets the high ground, directing your bruiser to get up close and personal with the enemy, placing squad members in suitable cover (though keep in mind that most cover is destructible) and so on.
