XCOM Enemy Within Infiltrator, Venomorph Cut Characters Concept Art

2K Games has issued a few images showing off a couple of characters that didn’t make it into XCOM: Enemy Within, their recently released standalone expansion to the 2012 turn-based tactical RPG/strategy title by Firaxis Games. The Infiltrator was conceptualised an ally of the aliens, so as to facilitate covert ops into the game, while the Venomorph was an alien type designed to incite discontent among the Council nations associated with XCOM.

The latter would have been able to use civilians as pods, residing as parasites inside humans. However, both of these characters were shelved due to creative and production issues, including narrative problems pertaining to the Infiltrator’s alliance with the aliens, and the secret power-hungry paramilitary organisation EXALT was introduced instead.
